The Importance of Being Earnest is a delightful and memorable comedy of manners. Oscar Wilde satirizes Victorian manners and customs, but he does it with a light, witty style that's absolutely unforgettable. Two young gentlemen have taken to bending the truth in order to add some excitement to their dull lives. Mr. Worthing has invented a brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to leave his life in the country behind to visit Gwendoln in London. Algernon Montcrieff decides to take the name of Earnest when visiting Mr. Worthing’s young and beautiful cousin, Cecily. Situations start to go awry when they all end up in the country and their trickeries are exposed.
